Dumfries Junior Sophie Jackson Wins in Prague
After her recent success in Russia at the World Mixed Championship claiming bronze for team Scotland it was back to the domestic campaign for Sophie and her Junior Team.
The team flew out to Prague to compete in their second European Junior Curling Tour of the season.
Team Jackson started the tournament with a nice early first round at 8:45am (7:45am back home)
With a good win against Team Wetzikon from Switzerland it was the best possible start to the event. They would play later in the day at 2.30pm against Germany 1.
The game against Germany 1 went to an extra end, with the game tied after 8ends Team Jackson dug in and managed to steal the extra end leaving them on 2 wins from 2 after day 1.
Next up was Team Slovakia. Continuing on from the good start the day before Team Jackson put another solid performance in to get a nice win against Slovakia moving to three wins. Next up was Hungary.
In a very close game and good performance Team Jackson came out in the last end on the wrong side of the scoreboard and went down to their first loss. Due to the excellent wins earlier in the event 3 wins 1 loss was enough to see them into the Semi Final.
In the Semi-Final Team Jackson came up against another German Team. It was a very close semi-final but keeping their nerve at the later stages of the game allowed another win for Team Jackson moving them into the final against Switzerland
Another solid performance saw them beat Switzerland 7-4 in the final. Sophie Said “We have had a great weekend and would like to thank all of our sponsors for their support; it was a great tournament for us out in Prague and lots of fun.”
